House of D (2004)

Story:
The Hollywood Reporter said David Duchovny will make his feature writing/directing debut with "House of D," Duchovny will also appear in the film alongside his wife, Tea Leoni, and Robin.
"House of D." is described as an emotional fable about New York and the sweeping power of friendship. It tells the multilayered story of a man coming to terms with his past and his present and resolving his relationships with the people who helped make him who he is.
Robin will play the lead character, with much of the story being told through flashbacks to his childhood, where the young David Duchovny will be portrayed by Tyler Hoechlin ("Road to Perdition"). Ovation Entertainment and Bob Yari Productions have teamed to finance and produce the film.

Filmen begon op 15 November 2003 en de eerste foto’s kwamen 3 dagen later al online. De daarop volgende weken leverden wekelijks een aantal fanstatische foto’s op.
Mede omdat er zoveel Duchovny fans zijn, was het makkelijk om aan foto’s te komen. Krijg je meteen een idee over hoe de film eruit ziet en hoe de character eruit zien.
Meteen was duidelijk dat Mr. Williams een geestelijk gehandicapte speelt. En hij wordt nu al voor een Oscar getipt door verschillende sites (omdat, zo zeggen de journalisten, Tom Hanks en Dustin Hoffman ook een Oscar kregen toen zij een geestelijk gehandicapte speelden). We zullen wel zien wat er gebeurd.

I think the movie is supposed to be serious. Robin Williams plays a kid (Yes, I know. He is supposed to be "Mentally challenged", and the main character (As a child) is an actor named Anton (I forgot his last name). David plays the main character as an adult. But most of the movie is childhood. I have a part of the script (With Robin's autograph on it) lol.
Well, as far as I remember, the main character (as a grown up) is a man who lives in Paris, married to a french wife, even his son believe that he is french.
But things happen and he must go home, NY.

So if David is playing this character, he MUST speak french!

OK! More news. Today I went again. I was supposed to be playing a stickball game. It was fun, but very very tiring. Um... David's director chair says "D. Diddy" on it, and people were referring to him as that. I found that weird, but funny. I am too tired to write anything else. I will tell more when I get some sleep.
Robin's character is named Papass, and he plays a retarded janitor, who is a friend of young Tommy (Played by Anton Yelchin- A cool kid, by the way). I think that his full name in the movie is Tom Warshaw, but I'm not too sure. And I'm pretty sure that it starts out in France. The scene I was in was a stickball game, in which Tommy and a few kids from his school were playing a few kids from the school that my character is in. (They play behind a building and there is a sign that says "No ball playing".) His team wins (Because of Papass- I don't want to give away how he wins), and then some of them go on a stoop and talk about girls that he likes. (At one point, Papass says "Tommy don't like girls" and everyone laughs.)
We filmed the stoop on Friday, and the stickball game on Monday...

Odell Warshaw:
13, he's Tom's son, a French-speaking boy, raised in France, who has no idea that his "French" father is actually American born. Odell is concerned about his parents' recent separation, but he remains quite close to both parents. When Odell makes the exciting journey to New York to revisit his father's old haunts, he begins to get the full picture of his father's past, and he is reassured that his parents' relationship will survive all recent revelations. Coralie Warshaw: 30s, A beautiful woman. She's Tom's wife. Although she remains deeply in love with her husband, Coralie is fed up with his preoccupation and emotional remoteness - failings that have resulted in their recent separation. However, when Tom finally decides to tell Coralie the truth about his past, she is remarkably supportive, and urges him to return to New York in search of Peace and closure. Speaks English with an accent also - Must Speak French, Lead;

Simone: 50-something owner of a neighborhood meat market, she's a sexy Frenchwoman who chain-smokes Gauloises and peppers her heavily accented English with expletives. A good friend to both Tommy and Pappass, she lets them work after hours delivering meat. When Pappass falls afoul of the law, Simone stands by him, offering him a raise and her support. Must Speak French;

Mrs. Martynuk: The charactery French teacher at the parochial school, this Frenchspeaking authoritarian meets her match in Tommy, who turns her every Gallic utterance into a filthy double-entendre. Mrs. Martynuk has no idea why Tommy's apparently innocuous comments are causing such hilarity in her classroom;

Mrs. Brevoort: This pitiable older woman, who seems continually lost in reverie of better days past, is a regular customer on Tommy's route. In fact, Tommy and Pappass are probably the only people she ever sees on a regular basis. Addled and confused, Mrs. Brevoort pines for her missing son, and is always calling out his name in her continuing half-dream. When the desperate Tommy pays a visit, Mrs. Brevoort mistakes him for her boy. Laboring under that misapprehension, she gives Tommy the money he needs to start a new life;

Mr. Pappass: Pappass's father, he's a dirty, downtrodden and poor man of Greek descent who haunts his tenement doorstep, swilling brown-bagged beer from a 40 oz. bottle. Bitter and cruel, but not irredeemably nasty, he persistently taunts Pappass for being retarded, and worse, upbraids his son for "killing" his drunken mother, whom he insists walked in front of a car out of disgust and despair over her retarded son. However, when the outraged Tommy interrupts the litany of Mr. Pappass's abuse, the spell is broken, and Mr. Pappass shows the lighter side of his personality;

Sasha: Simone's partner (and possibly lover), this butcher is also a good friend to Tommy and Pappass. A character who gives Tommy a porno flip book for his birthday, Sasha remains loyal to Pappass when he gets fired from his day job. Speaks with Russian accent.

He's making his feature film directing debut with "The House of D," which he also wrote and in which he co-stars. And he's under budget, he proudly told me. The budget: $7 million. But that's because he and many of his cast member friends are working for the minimum the guild will allow. That includes Robin Williams, Frank Langella and Duchovny's wife, Tea Leoni. O, maar ik las niks natuurlijk. Ik heb de film nog niet gezien dus waarom zou ik spoilers lezen? (De film is nog niet af, dus zal wel niemand het lezen.)

Ik zie enkel een halve pagina niks met hier en daar 'Robin' of 'Mr. Williams'. Ik begin nu te vermoeden dat je een psychose nadert.

Min of meer in Jack. Ik weet 't, technisch heb ik ongelijk, maar het komt op hetzelfde neer.

Waarom niet?

Min of meer in OHP, min of meer in Insomnia, min of meer in The Fisher King.

Voordat jullie je mond open doen, zouden jullie je best iets meer in de films/personages van Mr. Williams mogen verdiepen.

Ik ga niet uitleggen wat voor personen hij speelde in de door jullie genoemde films, tenzij jullie zelf niet begrijpen dat hij heel ander soort types was dan een "achterlijke".

Waarom zou het personage Jack een achterlijk iemand zijn?

Als je vragen stelt wil je meer weten dan dat er in het verhaaltje er boven staat en dus vraag je min of meer om spoilers. Als je niet gespoilerd wil worden, moet je ook niets vragen. Wil je wel meer weten over de film...eerst lezen, dan pas vragen.

Maar eh, je begrijpt toch wel dat wij een lijn zien in het soort rollen waarvoor de heer Williams gecast wordt ?!!

Ja Lin, je kan ook gewoon ALLES als negatieve kritiek of gezeur zien, maar daar wordt het allemaal niet leuker op.

Als je ergens niet op in wil gaan, ga er dan niet op in. En kom niet aan met vijandige frases als

Dat wat er over was aan charme m.b.t. je fascinatie voor Robin W. dreigt wat mij betreft wel rap te verdwijnen zo.

Verder had je dat hele lange bericht ook best met een link kunnen doen, en heb je erg veel tussen spoiler-tags geplaatst dat daar helemaal niet hoeft.

Samenvattend:

* Het betreft het regie-debuut van David Duchovny, die zelf ook het script schreef. Naast Duchovny en Williams zal ook Tea Leoni in de film spelen. Het wordt een gelaagd emotioneel drama over een man die zich moet verzoenen met zijn eigen heden en verleden. Veel flashbacks, waarin Tyler Hoechlin ("Road to Perdition") de jonge versie van Williams' personage zal spelen.

* Door de vele fans van Duchovny kon je kennelijk veel foto's vinden, en daaruit blijkt dat Williams (inderdaad) een geestelijk gehandicapte speelt. Veel mensen voorspellen een Oscar, want ook Tom Hanks en Dustin Hoffman kregen er 1 toen ze een geestelijk gehandicapte speelden.

* Het budget zou slechts 7mln US$ zijn, en dat zou alleen mogelijk zijn omdat al die acteurs graag voor weinig aan het debuut van hun maatje Duchovny willen werken.

Al die stukken met speculaties en uit script overgetiepte beschrijvingen van personages had ik liever in een url-verwijzing gezien, lijkt me op een forum als dit weinig relevant.

Bovendien zit ik op dit soort berichten absoluut niet te wachten hier...

Maar met mag best even eerst nadenken voordat ze iets zeggen. Wouter is heus niet zo dom dat ie denkt dat Jack een achterlijk persoon is. En ook was zijn opmerking ," niet weer een film met williams als achterlijke".... waar haalt ie dat vandaan dan?!

Ben eerlijk gezegd ook wel benieuwd waarop gedoeld wordt, ik zie het ook niet 1,2,3, zo'n lijn.

Dat de heer Williams vaak rare snuiters speelt, al dan niet psychisch gestoord.

Akkoord, dat lijkt wel te kloppen ja. Wellicht afgezien van Good Will Hunting. Hoeft overigens niet zijn schuld te zijn dat hij steeds voor dergelijke rollen gecast wordt.

In Dead Poets Society, Good Morning Vietnam, Awakenings en nog wel een paar andere films was hij ook vrij normaal hoor.

Ik moet zeggen dat ik tussen deze rol (als Pappass in House of D) en Jack, Sy Parrish, Parry en Walter Finch niet echt een overeenkomst zie. Pappass heeft gewoon een geestelijke achterstand, terwijl bij al die anderen ies anders aan de hand is (bv groeistoornis, post-traumatic syndrome, moord, eenzaamheid enz.)

Maar dat ie regelmatig een minder-normaal persoon speelt, klopt wel ja.

Voor zover ik weet geeft hij zelf de opdracht aan z'n agent om een bepaald soort script te zoeken. Dat script wordt dus eerst door z'n agent beoordeeld, daarna gaat het script naar Marsha (vrouw van...) en daarna pas naar meneer zelf.
