Plot The X Files: I Want to Believe

"To find the truth, you must believe."

Duchovny almost done negotiating X-Files 2 movie

Gillian Anderson and David DuchovnyOur friends at sister site Cinematical have some good news for any remaining fans of The X-Files: a second theatrical film, which star David Duchovny has been talking about making for a few years now, is closer to being a reality. During a set visit to Duchovny's currently shooting film The TV Set, IESB.net found out from the actor that negotiations are currently in their final stages, and that the film should start filming in 2008 or sooner.

According to IESB, Duchovny had mentioned the possibility of a second X-Files movie in 2005; instead of an alien conspiracy plot, though, Scully and Mulder would be engaged in a "standalone supernatural horror film," as IGN reported back then. That's probably a good idea, since the series ended five years ago (and most people stopped watching soon after the first movie frustrated die-hard fans way back in 1998). Continuing the conspiracy storyline would feel like they were beating the pile of dog food that the dead horse was made into. Though I wouldn't mind seeing a glimpse of the Cigarette Smoking Man again...

Scully over X-Files 2

"They’re starting to talk about doing a feature again. Every year or two they talk about it again, but it seems like it might be for real this time. Somehow it seems like somebody’s really serious about it. [...] All Chris says is that he wants to make a really scary horror, like a stand-alone episode. I don’t think they’re interested in touching on any of the conspiracy stuff."

En nog meer nieuws:

The X-Files: The Truth About the New Movie

The X-FilesIt's been five years since The X-Files final episode was aired and nine years since the feature film was released. Though a second film has been rumored for many years, fans had begun to suspect that a new film would be as likely as the government admitting there's a Roswell cover-up. Well, it looks like things may have changed.

The X-Files was created by Chris Carter and debuted on September 10, 1993 on FOX. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson starred as FBI Agents Mulder and Scully who investigated cases of paranormal activity called "X-Files." The series ran for 201 episodes and inspired a short-run spin-off series (The Lone Gunmen) and a feature film in 1998 (The X-Files: Fight the Future). The series popularity declined in its later years and it ended on May 19, 2002 with more than a few mysteries left unsolved. The show remains popular and was named the second greatest cult show of all time in 2006 by TV Guide.

Since Hollywood is so hot to stick with known properties (hence the big-screen adaptations of Underdog, The Dukes of Hazzard, Magnum P.I., etc., etc., etc.), it seems like another X-Files film would be an easy greenlight. Not so. Back in early 2004, Duchovney said he believed a second film would begin production in "the next year or so." Nope. In 2005, Duchovney told reporters that he expected to shoot "X-Files 2" later that year or in early 2006. Didn't happen.

Now, after years of delays, things are moving forward. It seems the movie was delayed due to an ongoing lawsuit between series creator Chris Carpenter and the FOX studio over syndication profits. The lawsuit has reportedly now been settled. Both Duchovny and Anderson have finally been signed to do the film. Anderson recently said, "Every year or two they talk about it again, but it seems like it might be for real this time. Somehow it seems like somebody's really serious about it "

The film's plot details however remain locked away, safe from prying eyes -- even those of Agent Scully. Anderson revealed, "I keep in e-mail contact with Chris but he won't talk about it. At all." Mulder's alter-ego Duchovny seems to have uncovered a few more details. He says that the movie will focus mostly on the core characters Mulder and Scully (sorry Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish) and will be a standalone supernatural thriller. It won't directly relate to the alien conspiracy that became the series' overlying storyline. If the film does well, Duchovney believes there will be additional movies as well.

Will the film touch on any of the questions left hanging by the end of the series -- like the fact that there's a world-ending alien invasion coming on December 22, 2012? It doesn't sound like it but Anderson says that the movie sequel's function isn't to appease the hardcore fans. "I actually don't have enough of a perspective to say whether questions were answered or whether it [the series] was wrapped up enough in the end, and honestly there's part of me that doesn't care. I can be sympathetic to die-hard fans who might feel left in short shrift, but that's where my sympathies lie!"

Filming should begin in 2008 or sooner. Hopefully the new X-Files movie will be released sometime before Christmas 2012, after which I guess it really wouldn't matter anymore. Or maybe there will be a government cover up to stop the movie from being released because it reveals too much... conspiracy lovers, stay tuned! TV Series Finale home page

If the film does well, Duchovney believes there will be additional movies as well.

New X-Files Movie Next Summer?

David Duchovny says the long-awaited film could hit theaters in 2008.

July 14, 2007 - At the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour today, David Duchovny was in attendance to promote his new Showtime series Californication. During the event he was asked about the often speculated about second X-Files movie. Duchovny said that it was indeed going forward, and added that "Gillian [Anderson] is onboard."

After the event, I was among a smaller group of journalists who spoke to the actor further, and Duchovny was asked why he felt so confidant the movie was happening this time, after years of rumors about different scripts. Duchovny answered that the reason he was sure about this script was because "I'm actually supposed to see it next week! Before I would just say that [there was a movie] because they told me, but now, after talking to Chris [Carter] -- he's been giving me progress reports -- and he actually called yesterday, and said 'Next week, you should have something to read.'"

Asked to confirm earlier reports that the movie would be a standalone story, and not part of the larger mythology arc of the series, he replied "It should be. It should be a one-off, yeah."

I then asked Duchovny what the schedule for the film might be, in terms of both shooting it and releasing it, and he said "I think it was November, for a summer release." When asked if that would be summer 2008, the actor nodded.

Duchovny said he was looking forward to playing Fox Mulder again, and when asked why, answered, "Because he's cool! It's a great show and I love playing the character and I like the people."

X-Files movie starts filming in December

The X-FilesThe truth is still out there.

David Duchovny, during an interview for the DVD release of The TV Set, reveals that the script for the long-awaited (seriously, it's been ten years!) X-Files movie sequel is indeed done and it looks like they're going to start filming in December.

Duchovny had no further details on plot, though he has hinted in past interviews that this will be more of a stand alone movie and not part of the mythology arc from the show and first movie (aw, come on, I want to know what's been going on with that whole thing the past several years). Duchovny does ask one thing of people: don't spoil the damn movie by leaking info about it. Thank you.

X-Files' Sequel Rushing Toward Theaters

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will be back on the big screen by next summer

November 1, 2007

David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, 'The X-Files'

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson of 'The X-Files'

"X-Files" fans, starved for a new film since 1998, won't have to wait that much longer.

The trade papers are reporting that after years of rumors and false starts, not only will the currently untitled "X-Files 2" begin production in December, but it will be ready for release on July 25, 2008.

That's a pretty quick window for the Chris Carter-directed film, which is based on a script from Carter and Frank Spotnitz. Naturally, nobody's going to tell you a darned thing about the plot for the movie except that David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will be back as Mulder and Scully and that they'll probably be investigating something mysterious, something that leads them one step closer to "the truth," whatever that is. We hear it's out there.

Set to be distributed by 20th Century Fox, "X-Files 2" will shoot in Vancouver with Carter and Spotnitz producing as well.

Despite the fast that studios are already filling up weekends in 2009 and 2010, the "X-Files" sequel has landed on what currently stands as a fairly quiet frame next summer. As of now, only Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly's "Step Brothers" and an untitled Ice Cube comedy are set for release that day.

"X-Files" ran on FOX from 1993-2002, winning a slew of Emmys along the way. The 1998 "X-Files" feature made more than $185 million worldwide.

Nieuws over de casting

X-Files flick casts three more

By Tim Surette - TV.com

December 6, 2007 at 12:13:00 PM | more stories by this author

Report says film featuring the paranormal pair of Mulder and Scully will also feature rapper Xzibit, Amanda Peet, Billy Connolly.

One of the two major science-fiction properties looking for new life next year in theaters is the upcoming X-Files movie (the other being J.J. Abram's Star Trek film), which is due out next July.

The truth is in my 24-inch rims, son.

Like Star Trek, most specifics on the long-rumored movie are being kept under wraps like a government conspiracy. The only confirmed news is David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are returning to reprise their roles as agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, series creator Chris Carter wrote the screenplay (along with X-Files writer Frank Spotnitz) and will direct, and the movie will have a stand-alone story and won't be a sequel to the 1998 film.

Now comes word of new cast members, and it's a bit of a motley crew. The Hollywood Reporter says rapper Xzibit, Amanda Peet, and Billy Connolly will all have parts in the upcoming film.

Xzibit and Peet are set to play fellow FBI agents, according to The Hollywood Reporter, citing sources. No word was given on Connolly's character. Because the story of the film is so closely guarded, 20th Century Fox would not confirm the sources' information.

Rapper Xzibit got his start on the mic, but soon developed into a major television personality thanks to his spot hosting MTV's Pimp My Ride. He's also appeared in the films XXX: State of the Union, Gridiron Gang, and 8 Mile. Peet is best known for roles in The Whole Ten Yards and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Scotsman Connolly is legendary as a foul-mouthed comedian, musician, and actor, having roles in varied titles such as White Oleander, Muppet Treasure Island, and Fido, in which he played a domesticated zombie.

The X-Files ran for nine seasons between 1993 and 2002 on Fox, and is one of the most successful science-fiction television shows in history. The X-Files movie was released in 1998 and grossed almost $200 million worldwide.

Here's Mulder and Scully in The X Files 2 ! - ComingSoon.net

The film will dump the long-running "mythology" plotline — that aliens live among us and are part of a colonizing effort. "We spent a lot of time on (the mythology) and wrapped up a lot of threads" when the show went off the air in 2002, Chris Carter, creator of the series and director of the new movie, told the USA Today "We want a stand-alone movie, not a mythology conspiracy one."

Mulder: Whatever tape you found in the VCR, it isn't mine.

Scully: Good. Because I put it back in the drawer with all the other tapes that aren't yours.

Scully: Our "friend" from the CIA is about as unbelievable as his story. As is everything about this case. I mean, whatever happened to "Trust no one"?

Mulder: Oh, I changed it to "Trust everyone." Didn't I tell you?

Scully: According to the briefing, the prisoners escaped while hiding in a laundry cart.

Mulder: I don't think the guards have been watching enough prison movies.

When a group of women are abducted in the wintry hills of rural Virginia, the only clues to their disappearance are the grotesque human remains that begin to turn up in snow banks along the highway. With officials desperate for any lead, a disgraced priest's questionable visions send local police on a wild goose chase and straight to a bizarre secret medical experiment that may or may not be connected to the women's disappearance. Its a case right out of The X-Files. But the FBI closed down its investigations into the paranormal years ago. And the best team for the job is ex-agents Fox Mulder and Dr. Dana Scully, who have no desire to revisit their dark past. Still, the truth of these horrific crimes is out there somewhere...and it will take Mulder and Scully to find it!
