Ik geef toe af en toe wat valsgespeeld te hebben. Kubrick, de Coens en Hitchcock werden zovaak eerste dat ik bij jaren met zwaardere competitie stiekem een andere film voor heb gelaten, die soms een halfje lager scoort (bijvoorbeeld The Apartement in 1960 of Le Procès in 1962), maar dan liggen de scores nog dicht bij elkaar. Ik wou ook maar één keer een LotR-film laten winnen dus koos ik voor het jaar waarin die film de minste tegenstand had.

Jaren waarin geen films 3,5* haalde heb ik weg gelaten en ook korte films liet ik buiten beschouwing.

Opvallend sterke jaren: 1939, 1946, 1959, 1971, 1975, 1994, 2001 en 2007.
