Dr. No uit James Bond overleden

LOS ANGELES (ANP) - Joseph Wiseman, die vooral bekend werd door zijn rol van Dr. No in de James Bond-film uit 1962, is op 91-jarige leeftijd overleden. Dat meldde de Los Angeles Times woensdag.

Wiseman overleed maandag in zijn huis in Manhattan. De in Canada geboren acteur kampte de afgelopen jaren met een slechte gezondheid. Hij verhuisde op jonge leeftijd naar de Verenigde Staten.

Volgens zijn dochter keek hij met ,,grote minachting'' terug op zijn rol van Dr. No. Hij vond het volgens haar verschrikkelijk dat hij door deze rol herinnerd zou worden; hij wilde vooral herinnerd worden door zijn theaterrollen.

Wiseman speelde zijn eerste rol op Broadway in 1938. Zijn doorbraak in de filmwereld was in Viva Zapata! uit 1952 waarin hij samen met Marlon Brando speelde. Later was hij veelvuldig te zien in Amerikaanse televisieseries zoals The Streets of San Francisco en Law & Order.

Vrouw Hans van Breukelen overleden

Triest nieuws voor Hans van Breukelen. De oud-keeper van PSV en het Nederlands elftal heeft vorige week zijn vrouw verloren aan kanker.

De echtgenote van Hans is 51 jaar geworden. Hans en Karin hadden samen drie kinderen: de zonen Lars en Kjeld en dochter Svenja.

Acterende muilezel overreden

LONDEN - Een muilezel die 25 jaar lang in allerlei films was te zien, is overreden. Het dier overleefde het ongeval niet. Dat meldt het Britse boulevardblad The Sun.

De 27-jarige Napoleon ontsnapte uit zijn weiland, nabij het Britse Mursley, samen met drie ezels. Niet veel verderop werd hij aangereden door een auto. Napoleon kon lachen, liggen, en zijn benen kruisen. Vorig jaar was het dier nog te zien in The Duchess. Zijn tegenspeelster was Keira Knightley.

Eigenaar Gerard Naprous is bedroefd. ''Acteren was zijn lust en zijn leven. Hij was een erg goed acteur.'' (ANP)

Acteur Manu Verreth (69) overleden

Acteur Manu Verreth (69) is vrijdagavond in zijn slaap overleden. Hij was al een tijdje ziek. TV-kijkend Vlaanderen zal hem voor altijd herinneren als Jomme Dockx uit 'De Collega's', een legendarische reeks die de VRT vandaag nog steeds uitzendt.

Manu Verreth en tweelingsbroer René Verreth werden op 29 februari 1940 geboren in Mechelen. Samen besloten ze om toneel te gaan spelen. Zo waren ze jarenlang verbonden aan het Mechels Miniatuurtheater (MMT), nu bekend als 't Arsenaal. Manu was er ook een tijdje directeur.

Eind jaren 70 speelde Verreth mee in de tv-serie 'De Collega's'. In zijn grijsblauwe stofjas speelde hij op meesterlijke wijze classificeerder Jomme Dockx, vandaag nog steeds zijn bekendste rol. Die maakte hem onsterfelijk.

Verreth speelde ook enkele rollen in 'Het Pleintje', 'Flikken', 'Aspe' en 'F.C. De Kampioenen'.

Manu en zijn broer René presenteerden in 1987 samen de 'Pak de poen-show', waar ze televisiegeschiedenis schreven. Alles wat mis kon gaan, ging ook werkelijk mis en de uitzending liep in het honderd.

In september moest Verreth nog een reeks theatervoorstellingen afzeggen omdat hij ziek was. Hij leende toen zijn acteertalent aan Georges, een voorstelling over oudermishandeling. Zijn broer had het bewerkt voor Theater Waverland in Sint-Katelijne-Waver.
