film van de week op ICM, waar ik zojuist het volgende commentaar schreef:
Finally my first Nikos Papatakis film seen!
The stories surrounding him are almost more exciting than the movie. Like Nico getting her name based on his for instance. And here he is directing his 30 years younger wife in one of her first movies. The links with the French new wave are also clear, from the French names in the production and use of atonal music (reminding maybe even more of Toru Takemitsu come to think of it...)
But the movie itself I give just a 7.5/10... it didn't win me over completely. Most of the satiric part either didn't feel funny to me or not relevant to me. This is about a deeply religous community where honour, and marriage are things to be fought over and sold... I always felt this is a bit stupid, and the movie might be making a point of that, but I am not really sure actually... I mostly enjoyed the nice pictures, the crazy things going on, the music, the beautiful Olga Karlatos and so on, but it didn't go múch deeper than that I think...
