Een groep meiden gaat naar Eastland School, een kostschool in New York, waar ze alle geneugten en beproevingen van hun leeftijd ervaren onder leiding van huismoeder mevrouw Garrett. De serie richt zich met name op mevrouw Garrett en hoe zij van huismoeder en diëtiste tot bedrijfsleider groeit. In de tussentijd zal ze met alle perikelen rondom de jongedames in haar huis moeten zien om te gaan.
