Patricia Rozema was born in Kingston, Ontario. Following her feature-film debut I've Heard the Mermaids Singing (87), which won the Prix de la Jeunesse at Cannes, she has distinguished herself as a writer and director for both film and television. Her other theatrical features as director include When Night is Falling (95), Mansfield Park (99), which appeared at the Toronto International Film Festival, and Kit Kittredge: An American Girl (08). Her screenplay for the HBO film Grey Gardens (09) was nominated for an Emmy Award. Into the Forest (2015) is her latest feature.
